Senators Build-Up
Remember a couple weeks ago We talked about the Canucks build up well today it's the senators build up. On the opening day they got the main thing they needed good goaltending and they got some with goaltender Alex Auld. Not only will he be a good backup he will challenge for the starting job. Then they got some grit other than Chris Neil and that was Jarkko Ruutu. Then they got more leadership with signing Jason Smith. Then they got forward Brennan Bell. The Senators lost Wade Redden to the New-York Rangers and Cory Stillman to the Florida Panthers. Senators GM Bryan Murray said he would like to get restricted free agent Andrej Meszaros under contract before training camp.

What Mats happened ?
Mats Sundin recently said in a press conference that he would make his decision on which team he will play for in the 2008-2009 season on August 1. As I expected he didn't but he did get his agent ( J.P. Barry) to say that there are even more team that have made offers to Mats. The all the teams that have made offers to Mats Sundin are Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, New-york Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Los-Angeles Kings, and I don't know the sixth team. So I will get more info as the come. later...

York signs with new team
Former All-Star Mike York has signed a one year contract with the Columbus Blue-Jackets. York played 63 games with the Phoenix Coyotes in the 63 games he play last season he had 6 goal and 8 assists witch add up to 14 points. York was selected by the New York Rangers in the seventh round (136 overall) in the 1997 entry draft. I think it is another great sign by the Blue-Jackets. post your thoughts about what you think about the signing of Mike York.

Mats Sundin Still Undecided
Yesterday a Swedish newpaper reported that Mats Sundin had signed with the Vancouver Canucks. Mats had this to say about what the newpaper had reported "It's not true at all that I'm definitely going to Vancouver. When you're a professional hockey player, the money is one part of the total picture before a decision," said Mats. "But there are plenty of other things that play in as well. If it was only about the money, I would have already signed with Vancouver." I think that Mats Sundin will sign with the Canucks because look at his other choices Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Los Angeles. First Toronto they are in a re-building stage and it's going to be another hard season to watch for Maple Leaf fans so don't expect Mats to walk out of the NHL with a stanley cup ring if he re-signs with the Leafs. In Montreal would be a place for Mats to win the stanley cup in the next 1-2 seasons but that would be harsh to play for the leafs then go and sign with there divison rival. Be for the trade deadline Sportsnet Connected said that Mats Sundin does not what to go to a team in the united states because it would mean him doing alot of paperwork (transaction forms) so that pretty much crosses out New York and Los Angeles. So in Vancouver he would be the highest paided NHL player, play in a great hockey enviroment, and he would be playing for a team that could actually make the playoffs. Feel free to post your thoughts about what Mats Sundin Should do or e-mail me at hockey_talk @live.com

Canucks Build Up
Today I'm Going to Talk about the way the canucks are shaping up (don't worrie I will do other team build ups later) I was very happy when the Canucks finally fired David Nonis. But I was nervous about his replacement Mike Gillis but with in the next couple weeks he picked up Kyle Wellwood off waviers. Then Gillis traded a third-round pick in the 2009 NHL draft and a second-round pick in 2010 (one of the draft picks was Los-Angeles') for the young right winger Steve Bernier I think Bernier will scored 15-25 goals this season which is what the canucks
needed so badly. The Canucks also signed four more players Nolan Baumgartner, Rob Davison, Ryan Johnson, Darcy Horndichuk. Then When you thought Mats Sundin was the only guy the canucks were still talking to they signed right winger Pavol Demitra I first thing I thought was he is going to be a first or second line player and he is going to be a leader. Then the Canucks made one more move they signed Jason Krog who was the point leader in the America Hockey League. So thats was is happening on the Canucks Front I will post more news as it comes.

2009 Winter Classic
This years winter classic will take place at Wrigley Field (Chicago). The two teams that will be playing at this Winter Classic will be the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red-Wings.I think last years winter classic will be much better than this years because last year it had more Star power with Crosby, Malkin, Miller, Stall, Campbell,Vanek, Malone, Sykora,Roberts, Afinogenov, and Fleury it will probably be a much more interesting game than this years. Anyway the Winter Classic will once again be on New Years Day. A cool fact is that Brian Campbell will be in this second winter classic. So thats all for now later...

Ted Nolan out as Islanders Coach
When ever a team is struggling this is always what happens, A coach gets fired or as Garth Snow says they had "philosophical differences" which means they had different thoughts about what the team should do. I think Garth Snow and the Islanders organization should had at least have given him 1 more year but that is just me write in what you think the Islanders should have done with Ted Nolan.

Lecavalier is staying in Tampa For awile
Today Vincent Lecavalier signed a 11-year contract extension with the Tampa-Bay Lightning. The contract he signed will keep him with the organizasion until he is 39 years old. The contract is worth 10 million a year(making him the highest paided NHL player) until the 2016-2017 season he will drop to 8.5 millon. Then in the 2017-2018 season he will make 4 millon. Then in the 2018-2019 season he will make 1.5 millon and the final year (2019-2020) he will get 1 million.
Radulov is going to Russia???

One day after the NHL and the KHL made a deal that each other can't make offers on players with contracts. The one of the KHL teams has suposebly had signed Alexander Radulov but Nashville Predators GM David Poile said that he is expected to be at training camp and he will play for the Preds for the 08-09 NHL Season. Post a comment about what you think about this Topic.

Demitra signs with Canucks
Yes, the rumors came true Demitra is a Vancouver Canuck today the details of the deal were disclosed. Alot of people were having mixed feelings about Gillis because of Naslund and Morrison being gone but I think people's additudes will change after they hear about Demitra. I will try to get some details on the signing in the next couple days.

Fedorov and Peca Re-Sign
Demitra looks to sign with Canucks
Pavol Demitra has said on a local radio station that his first choice is Vancouver (canucks). Mike Gillis was demitra's agent before he became the GM on the canucks which is probably why he would like to see himself in a Canucks jersey soon. I think this is a great and smart move by Mike Gillis.
Emery is leaving the NHL
Jason Smith is back in Canada
The 34 year old Jason Smith is leaving philly and signing with Ottawa. Reports said that Smith signed a two year 5.2 million dollar contract tuesday. Jason Smith will replace Wade Redden who signed with the NY Rangers July 1. Smith has not played is Canada since playing with the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
